PlasmaCar – Sleekly Designed Twist Car

Product review of plasmacar.

Looking like something from the space age, the PlasmaCar is a sleekly designed, people-powered vehicle using the physics concepts of centrifugal force and gravity to provide the motion. With no batteries to recharge and no pedals to propel the car, it is an award-winning marvel of engineering. The car is powered by simply turning the wheel creating forward motion. To slow the car, stop turning the wheel. Just put your feet down to make it stop. The toy care is very simple to put together and comes in a variety of colors and can support up to 220 pounds so adults can take a whirl too.

Although the design is enticing, several reviewers were disappointed that the car requires a perfectly smooth and flat surface to operate at more than a snail’s pace. Children become frustrated at the slow pace on a level sidewalk. The perfect surface for achieving some speed is a smooth concrete garage floor or wood gymnasium floor, but kids want to enjoy riding on the sidewalk or driveway. A significant number of reviewers reported that the car is not well constructed and there were problems with wheels and other parts not staying in place. The car also cannot be left outside in wet weather or metal parts may rust making it inoperable. One reviewer pointed out that the instructions state that it can damage wood floors, a surface where the car operates well.

Customer reviews are a great way to research a product and find out if it truly delivers. Here are a few reviews from owners of the Blue PlasmaCar.

I bought this for my one yr old’s birthday- he was already riding on his 3 yr old sister’s old push car, and I thought he would certainly get good use out of it in a few months. It is a great hit with him as well as with his sister. He doesn’t get the wiggle motion yet, but will push it with his feet, and I can ride on the back with him on the front and we ride all through and around the house. My Daughter, never stops riding it, and this has helped explain the concept of sharing as she cannot resist a ride on the car in exchange for him using one of her toys. I am very impressed with the mechanism, the sturdiness of the car and how well it maneuvers. I would recommend it to anyone with children between the ages of 1(if you are prepared to ride on it with them) and 8 (I have seen our friends children have great fun with this). Best toy I have bought thus far! I suspect I will soon need to get another for my daughter to have her own.

We love love love our plasma cars! I paid a lot more than they sell for now, but I certainly don’t regret it. Very few toys stick around our house for too long because the kids outgrow them, get bored with them, or they fall apart. But I anticipate having our plasma cars for many more years before any of those things happen. So far, we’ve had them for almost 2 years. My children are now almost 4 and 8 years old and use their cars daily. We have laminate wood floor that are very smooth and they cars work perfectly on those floors. In our kitchen where the floor is vinyl, the car is a bit sluggish. We took the car to the park once and it did okay on the sidewalks, but it wasn’t good enough to bother ever taking it again.
